Day Outings for Family and Friends (DOFF) of AHECTA Conference Attendees

Monday, June 20 – The Arch

10:00 a.m. – Meet in the lobby.

Take Metro Link to Laclede’s Landing ($4.00 for an all day pass). Visit the Gateway Arch-Jefferson National Expansion Memorial. Walk through the interesting and informative Museum of Westward Expansion (free) underground beneath the Arch. Walk to The Old Cathedral (Basilica of St. Louis, King of France) and explore this 1780 year old church (free). Walk to the Old Courthouse, scene of the Dred Scott trial, with galleries showing the history of St. Louis from it French and Spanish roots (free). Audio tours available ($3.00). Walk to Laclede’s Landing, a renovated turn of the 20 th century neighborhood, the site of the city’s original settlement, which is now filled with shops and restaurants.

Lunch at Morgan Street Brewery, an award winning brewery with salads, pasta, sandwiches and pizza (@$10.00 - $12.00)

After lunch:

Explore Laclede’s Landing

OR

Return to the Arch for a tram ride ($10.00) to the top, where exhibits and a great view can be found (1 hour).

OR

Take the 1:30 p.m. riverboat cruise ($10.00) with historic narration (1 hour).

OR

See one of the 2:00 p.m. movies ($7.00) at the Arch (45 minutes).

Mid-afternoon

Return via Metro Link to the hotel to get ready for the evening events.

Tuesday, June 21 – Forest Park

10:00 a.m. – Meet in the lobby

Take Metro Link to Forest Park and the Zip 2 Shuttle ($4.00 all day pass) to the St Louis Zoo. Visit the Zoo, which has several specific habitats, including the Penguin and Puffin Coast, River’s Edge, Big Cat Country and Jungle of the Apes.

Lunch at The Painted Giraffe Café at the Zoo, offering sandwiches, hot entrees and daily specials (@ $10.00)

OR

For those who want to experience something different, take the Zip 2 Shuttle from the Zoo to the lovely Missouri Botanical gardens ($8.00) or to the Jewel Box, with enclosed gardens ($7.00) or go to the St.Louis Art Museum (free), where, in addition to a fine art collection, you will find a Wolfgang Puck restaurant.

Mid-afternoon

Return to the hotel via Metro Link to prepare for the evening events.
