LISTSERV ETIQUETTE

The AHECTA listserv is a valuable tool for members to share information and receive announcements. With busy schedules and lots of e-mail coming in, it's important that we all remember a few simple rules of etiquette when using the listserv.

  • The primary purpose of the listserv is to share information of a general nature among the members. Therefore, if you have information for the list or would like to receive information from members, send your e-mail to the listserv. Sales should be initiated by direct contact with members, rather than the list.
  • When you wish to reply to the sender, do not select the reply button, as this will send your reply to the entire list. Instead, respond using the e-mail address of the sender.
  • If a sender asks for a direct response ("contact me for details"), please oblige by responding to the sender, rather than the list.
  • Before hitting the "send" button, ask yourself "Is this e-mail relevant for a majority of the list?" If not, consider sending it to individual members direct

LISTSERV INSTRUCTIONS

Removing yourself from the list

Please DO NOT send a request to be removed from the list to the list address (ahecta@listserv.amrms.com) as everyone on the list will receive that request with the possible exception of the individual who can actually get you removed.

Please DO send an email to listserv@listserv.amrms.com from the email account under which you are subscribed (the email account where list messages are currently received by you). In the body (NOT the subject line) of the email message put the following text on a line by itself:

signoff AHECTA

Remove all other text in the body, including any signature files/text.

Shortly after you send the message, you should receive a confirmation email from the listserv server confirming that you have been removed from the list. If you do not receive this confirmation, please send an email directly to AHECTA headquarters at info@ahecta.org requesting to be removed from the AHECTA listserv.

If you're going to be out of the office…

…and you want to suspend delivery of list email messages while you are out.

Send an email to listserv@listserv.amrms.com from the email account under which you are subscribed (the email account where list messages are currently received by you). In the body (NOT the subject line) of the email message put the following text on a line by itself:

SET AHECTA nomail

Remove all other text in the body, including any signature files/text.

When you return to the office and want to start receiving list messages again, do the same as above, but use the following text in the body of the email message:

SET AHECTA mail

…and you use an "out of office assistant" in your email program to automatically alert those sending you email that you are out of the office.

Please remember that the vast majority of those on the list don't really need or want to know that you are out of the office. Please either use the steps outlined above to suspend delivery of list messages while you are out or include a filter/exemption in whatever "out of office assistant" your email program uses to prevent your "out of office" message from being sent to the list address (ahecta@listserv.amrms.com).
