CCC2007 Wrap-Up |
|
This past summer, AHECTA enthusiastically celebrated the numerous accomplishments of its first 10 years as an association, while looking at the trends, challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for our organization and our members. Significant highlights from CCC2007 included:
AHECTA Name Change: By a majority vote, AHECTA members approved a motion to formally change AHECTA's name to the Association of Higher Education Campus Television Administrators. The name change more accurately reflects all aspects of our expanding membership and association. Today's association has grown to include members and support for those involved with communication technologies, cable programming, video and digital services on-campus.
2007 SPA Award Recipients: This year's awards celebrated production achievements in the categories of News/Sports features, Graphics and Branding Packages, and Student Shorts. Emerson College received the traveling "Best Student Network" award at CCC2007 for their production and operation of The Emerson Channel. Additional winners included student participants from Elon University, New York University and University of California - Los Angeles (UCLA).
Keynote Address and Hot Topics: This year's conference discussions were kicked off by an introductory keynote address from Dalen Harrison, CEO of Ensequence. In addition to highlighting future industry trends, Harrison identified the potential impact of interactive and multiplatform television on our industry. Following the address, several break-out sessions delved deeper into the topics of digital transition, high definition reception, and emerging programming strategies for campuses. As a critical closing general session, corporate and institutional members evaluated emergency alert system planning and implementation and how we as campus leaders can better prepare ourselves and our systems to meet the safety needs of today's campuses.
Association Roundtables: As a new addition to the annual conference, attendees participated in a series of roundtable discussion topics concerning the development of the organization. Topics for the roundtable included potential development of AHECTA webinars, creation of a corporate council, enhancing website and member services, and conference planning. All the information gathered from attendees at the roundtable discussions was constructive and will be a resource for the AHECTA Board in planning future conference and association initiatives.
10th Anniversary Celebration: CCC2007 attendees marked the success of AHECTA's first 10 years with a champagne toast and more at an evening reception hosted by mtvU at the Portland Armory. Attendees spent the evening creating and recounting AHECTA memories with new and longtime association members, while honoring this year's SPA winners. In addition to the 10th Anniversary celebration, earlier in the conference attendees were treated to a perfect outdoor opening reception sponsored by Toner Cable, and an evening event at the World Forestry Center, Discovery Museum sponsored by Time Warner Cable and HBO.
AHECTA thanks all of our attendees, presenters, exhibitors and sponsors for participating and helping to make CCC2007 a successful conference.
