  Midyear Board Meeting Wrap-Up

The Crown Plaza Hotel in beautiful Providence, Rhode Island recently served as a backdrop for the AHECTA Board of Directors and their annual midyear planning meeting. During the two day meeting in late November, Board members were able to tour the hotel that will host the 2008 AHECTA Annual Conference along with potential venues for the two off-site event nights.

In addition to the site visits and conference planning discussions, the Board focused much of its attention on how to market the association to potential institutional and corporate members, increase attendance at the annual conference, and better engage non-Board members in the association between conferences.
As a result, a new "Call for Committee Volunteers" process was developed and implemented in late 2007/early 2008 with significant success. Finally, the 2008 annual workplan & budget was approved along with a 33% membership dues increase to offset rising association expenses.

  Member Spotlight - Campus TeleVideo

In this issue of the AHECTA newsletter, the spotlight shines on a long-term corporate member - Campus TeleVideo. Scott Bruckel, Director of Sales, provided the following information regarding CTV's relationship with AHECTA. Scott was interviewed by AHECTA President Elect and 2008 Conference Chair Mayumi Hirtzel.

Mayumi: How long has your company been a member of AHECTA? (I know it's been at least 10 years!)
Scott: I believe this will be our 12th year.

Mayumi: Tell us a little bit about your company. If you like, please iterate on the importance of corporate members in the association.
Scott: We are a privately owned and operated corporation providing video, data and voice solutions exclusively for colleges and universities, since 1984. CTV provides consulting, engineering design, installation, programming, maintenance and financing.

Corporate members are important in the association to provide a vendor perspective on available solutions for the institutional members. It not only creates a source of information for institutional members, but also creates a marketplace for them to accomplish their goals.

Mayumi: Have you ever attended an AHECTA conference?
Scott: I've only missed one.

Mayumi: What is your favorite conference city?
Scott: I liked Portland recently, and San Diego many years back.

Mayumi: Have you ever presented at an AHECTA conference?
Scott: Several times.

Mayumi: What has been your favorite topic to present?
Scott: When I showcased the newest programming available via satellite in Baltimore.

Mayumi: What, in your opinion, has been the most exciting or most interesting advancement in campus television in the last 10 (several) years?
Scott: HD Programming and IPTV.

Mayumi: Where do you see campus television going in the next 10 (several) years? (all wireless all the time, single-device media, telepathy?)
Scott: Definitely not all wireless. Fiber to the building will still be the method of choice. It will be a mix of large, HD televisions and small screen viewing devices, depending on the student's optometry budget.
